Abstract

The article presents new data on the study of bottom sediments of a lake isolated from the sea basin in the area of the village of Chupa (North Karelia). A lake basin at an altitude of 34.0 meters was studied. Based on comprehensive study of the lake bottom sediments was established that the sea coastline was located at this altitude approximately 5800 years ago. The results of comparison of new data with data from earlier studies may indicate differentiated movements of blocks of the earth’s surface, or a local activation of seismic processes in the Middle Holocene in this area.
