Using genetic hybridization and phylogenetic analyses, the genetic relationship of terrestrial and aquatic species of the ascomycetous yeast genus Kluyveromyces was investigated. The results obtained allow us to conclude that aquatic (K. aestuarii, K. nonfermentans, and K. siamensis) and terrestrial (K. lactis, K. marxianus, K. dobzhanskii, K. starmeri, K. wickerhamii) species belong to different genetic genera.
